“Peter is a Passionate Bicycle Rider”

Bicylcle riders on Parklaan going to the carnival – ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, 16.2.2015

Equipment

Peter is a bicycle rider, for his 72 birthday he planned to ride 72 miles. He found a 2 mile loop that started at the local elementary school parking lot. Next, he invited friends and family to meet him at that lot with their own bicycles to join him on his ride. They could come anytime between 8am and 3pm to join him for one or all of the 36 laps, 72 miles in all that he would ride that day. Riding and non-riding friends were invited to come at noon for a potluck picnic with cake provided at 12:45 before the last few hours of riding.

Each party goer brings their own bicycle ride.

Optional – Large water dispenser for folks to fill water bottles

Optional – Plates, Cups, Silverware, Napkins for the potluck

The Set Up

  • Clearly mark the starting point for each lap
  • Mark all or any confusing turns on the route

The Play

Folks arrive at any time, get their bike ready to join the “troupe” when Peter comes round to the starting point (no more than 10 minutes of waiting). Ride as long as they want.

Notes

  • It is optional but helpful best to have someone who will receive and set up the potluck while riders are riding
  • Folks are invited to come and cheer on the riders or better yet play inspiring music as the riders pass by.
  • Optionally, do this as a running event, walking event.
  • Optionally, change the length of the event, e.g. run 7.2 miles if Peter is 72.
  • Optionally, conduct a fund-raiser instead of gifts, e.g. $1 per mile or $1 per lap.
