Small groups of party goers fill in a mad lib form, specifically related to the day’s events. Each group chooses a reader or two and at an appropriate moment they read their creations to everybody else. usually to howls of laughter. “Matt and Stephanies’ Wedding Mad Lib”

Narrative

Matt and Stephanie had invited friends and family from all over the world to their wedding. At the reception we were assigned tables with a mixed group of people. On each table of 12 was a blank mad lib. As we sat down before the dinner, we were invited to fill out the mad lib with our table mates. We had a blast doing it and by the end of this quick activity felt more connected with our new friends. Later there was much laughter as each table read the “wedding lib” out loud to the other wedding guests. What a brilliant mixer: it loosened us all up and the whole afternoon and evening was more fun because of it!

Equipment.

  • One print out of the mad lib, front and back,
  • A writing utensil for each group

The Set Up

Create a blank Mad Lib for your occasion (or find one on line to adapt from). Decorate it if you want. Place one copy and a writing utensil on each table.

The Play

At an appropriate time the Host/MC/DJ encourages party goers to fill out their mad lib with a small group and when they are done pick a reader or two. Sometime during the event the MC gets everyone’s attention and the little ditties are shared.

Notes

If more than one of these are written, they could be read during one period of time, sprinkle though-out the celebration, shared between toast, or any other way that seems right for the event.

It can be fun to encourage children and/or a handful of special guest to be readers.
